We report only what our sources support, we attribute claims to the people who make them, and we correct our mistakes. We do not invent quotes, sources or details.

Independence

Our news coverage is not for sale. Advertisers, sponsors and partners have no say over what we report or how we report it, and commercial content is clearly separated from journalism.

Fairness

We treat the people we write about fairly, give those criticised a chance to respond where appropriate, and avoid sensationalism, particularly when reporting crime, accidents and deaths.

Privacy and harm

We respect privacy and only intrude where there is a clear public interest. We take particular care with children, victims of crime, people in grief and vulnerable people. We do not publish information that could identify people protected by law.
